Recon Mission - Extraction

Posted on Wed Oct 22nd, 2014 @ 5:47am by Petty Officer 1st Class Arianna D'Tal & Commodore Kathleen O'Shea & Commander Andrew Matheson & Lieutenant Commander Adria "Tempest" Desoro

Mission: Bloodpath
Location: Taranok IV
Timeline: Right after "Are we alone?", and "LZ Alpha"

[ON]

[Government plaza - Prepheradus]

As Arianna's team made their way towards the park on foot, they suddenly came under fire from one of the side streets. Taking cover behind the vehicles nearby, they began to return fire.

While returning fire using an automatic weapon, Arianna waved at the starfleet Marines that were in the park, signaling as best she could that they were pinned down.

"The one time I really need my COMM badge to work, and it just has to be fried." Arianna muttered to herself, as she dropped the magazine on her gun, to replace it with a new one.

Gabriel was busy trying to keep the incoming fire away from their current location. Extremely happy to see the familiar site of Starfleet Marine uniforms. She'd been embedded on Taranok IV for a while now. Relieved to see that they now had backup.

With her back against the vehicle she was using for cover, Arianna called out as loud as she could. "United Federation of Planets! Starfleet!" She called out. "By order of Federation law, you're under arrest for unlawful assault, and attempted murder of Starfleet personnel! Drop your weapons, and keep your hands where we can see them!!"

As expected, the answer she got was more weapons fire directed at her location. "Fine!" Arianna said with annoyance, as she shoved the fresh magazine into her weapon. "Be that way!" In a bold move, she poked her self out just enough to begin popping off shots, hoping she didn't get killed in the process.

Suddenly two craft racked overhead, several ordnance pieces visable on their wings. The performed a quick split S then regrouped, lining up to make a pass directly over where Arianna and the rest were situated. As they rapidly dropped altitude, it was clear that they were lining up for a bomb run. The last thing that Arianna saw before ducking back behind the vehicle was two bombs releasing from each aircraft...

All four bombs hit their targets...in the street where they had been taking fire from. Two buildings on either side of the street rapidly slid down to completely bury that entire area. As the craft sped off rapidly, an erie silence spread across the park.

Dust, and debris blanketed the entire area near where they had been taking fire, and where Arianna's team was taking cover. With the total silence, and the thick debris cloud, it was impossible to tell whether there were any survivors.

Several seconds went by before two Starfleet uniforms, and several Taranok military personnel emerged from the debris cloud, running towards the park.

Gabriel was changing out her own magazine. It was clear they were stuck in the middle of a war zone. At least for the time being. So much for what had been tasked as a quiet little aid mission.

[Outbound LZ-Alpha]

As Buren led the Tin Six Flight away from the park landing zone he glanced down and saw what looked like a Starfleet uniform in amongst a small group of people on the plaza below

=^= Tin Six - One take over Flight lead, Iron One is dropping out of formation. I'll meet you at the hold point =^=

After getting an acknowledgement Buren hauled the Runabout around and headed back towards the park, tipping the craft over he peered down, looking for the group again. Sure enough there was a woman wearing Command Red with the group.

Buren had no idea who she was, possibly somebody from the Consulate or maybe from the missing shuttle flight. The group was being fired on that was sure.

He tried standard comm frequencies, wondering if a commbadge would work in all the interference from the mag-pulse. =^= This is Runabout Iron One to the Starfleet Command crew-woman we just over-flew. Do you copy? =^=

The only reply was a hash of static. Buren circled over head and looked down again.

[Government plaza - Prepheradus]

As the group reached the park, Arianna could see one of the runabouts circling around above them. She assumed they had seen her group, so she let her machine gun hang by the strap, and started waving her hands to flag the runabout down.

[Runabout Iron One]

"Well either she can hear and can't respond or she's seen us and is waving anyway..." Buren said to his crew chief as he watched the woman below. He made a decision. "Okay get a weapon ready and stand by the hatch, lets go down and see who she is. If it looks like an ambush drop them!"

His crew chief acknowledged, got out of his seat and retrieved a phaser rifle from the weapons locker, then made his way to port side hatch. Slipping the rifle's strap over his shoulder he braced himself next to the hatch and prepared to open it as soon as Buren landed.

Taking one last look around Buren cut power and dropped the Runabout fast, coming to a stop some ten yards from the group and hovered two feet of the ground. "Open the hatch!" He called back "Only she comes in first! The rest wait until we find out who she is!"

"Aye sir!" The crew chief swung the hatch open and jammed the rifle barrel in the door way. With his free hand he pointed directly at the woman in the red Starfleet uniform and waved her towards him. Then pointed at the other members of the group and held his hand palm up towards them, indicating they should wait.

Arianna hesitated as the rifle was pointed at her. As she was waved in, and it was pointed at the others, she gestured for Jim Denova to follow her, his purple starfleet uniform unmistakable as he stepped around into view.

"I'm Petty Officer 1st Class D'Tal. I'm from Starbase 80." Arianna said to the man holding the weapon at the others. "The others are with me, and are soldiers from the Prepheradus Militia."

"I'm from Starbase 80, and I don't recognize your name." The man with the rifle replied, not taking his eyes away from the group. "Who are you?"

"I'm the Executive Officer's Yeoman. Now bring these people aboard." She gave him a serious look that said she meant business. "That's an order."

The man studied her for a moment as if gauging her response, before finally stepping aside to let them in.

Gabriel stayed put keeping her own weapon held in a manner that wouldn't flag her as hostile yet still able to use it on enemy forces if needed. The battle continued to rage around them. Despite the fact these were Starfleet forces she didn't like being told to stay back and wait. However protocol dictated that Gabriel couldn't blow her cover not yet. Even then it required people with sufficient clearance. For now Arianna and the rest believed she was a member of the Prepheradus Militia, exactly as they should.

Jim stepped forward after Arianna, staying just back and to her right. He also kept his hands clear of anything that could be construed as a weapon, though in his case that was fairly easy given his personal beliefs. The closest thing he had on him that could be considered a weapon was his combadge, and that was assuming he had a big enough rubber band to fling it with. He looked ahead at the armed man, waiting to see what the next move was going to be.

Arianna gestured to Jim that he should step into the shuttle, as she turned to face the others. She pointed to two random soldiers. "You two, return to the weapons cache, and let the others know that reinforcements have arrived." She said, before turning to Gabriel, Durion and the others. "The rest of you, get in."

Without a word, the two that she'd ordered to return to the weapons cache took off at a brisk pace back the way they'd come, as the others began to step up the ramp into the shuttle.

With a brief nod Gabriel boarded the shuttle. This wasn't over yet. She took a seat running through recent events in her head. More importantly Gabriel needed to have a very important conversation as soon as time and circumstances allowed.

Jim didn't need any further encouragement. He moved briskly and (he hoped) confidently through the hatch as soon as he was sure he wasn't going to get shot for it.

Arianna waited until everyone was inside, then stepped in, patting the crew chief on the arm. He closed the hatch, then turned to Buren. "Good to go."

As the runabout took off, Arianna sat down in one of the free passenger seats. She quietly leaned her elbows on her knees, and held her head in her hands.

On some level Gabriel was relieved but she knew things weren't over. The last several weeks had been the worst but she's been on Taranok IV for far longer than that. Now that Gabriel could relax just a bit she felt the first twinges of pain mostly in her right arm. ~ I must have landed wrong when I drove for cover, exactly when I can't say for sure. ~ Gabirel pondered the thought for a moment while she mentally prepared for what was ahead of her.

After a quiet moment, Arianna sat back up, with silent tears running down her face, her mascara messed up as a result. Being under the control of her temper for so long had taken it's toll on her emotional state as it backed off, turning her eyes their normal crystal blue color. "Is anyone hurt?" She asked as she wiped the tears from her face. "If so, I have medical experience."

Jim took a few moments to get himself pulled back together. He had faith in Arianna that they were all going to get through this mission, but as a general rule he could go without getting a rifle pointed at him and consider that to be a good day. At least he'd gotten past the point of flinching whenever that happened. He looked up as Arianna asked about injuries and shook his head in the negative.

"I think I must have injured my arm or shoulder somehow. Check to see if there are more urgent injuries first." Gabriel couldn't admit that she'd just gut it out. At the moment she was exhausted and worried. Yet there were still duty related things duty needed to do.

"No one else is complaining of injuries." Arianna said, as she got up, and grabbed the runabout's standard med kit. She moved over to where Gabriel was sitting. She opened up the kit, and took out the Tricorder that was in it. "Take off your jacket, and let me see your arm."

Gabriel reached over with her right arm to start to remove her jacket. Aware of the twinge of pain that movement caused. She managed to get her left arm free of the jacket, "I'm going to need some help getting this the rest of the way off."

Arianna moved to help the woman remove the jacket, being careful not to move her arm too much. On the surface, there appeared to be nothing wrong with her arm, but when Arianna started running the Tricorder over the area, she saw something different.

"Looks like you sprained it, and there is some minor ligament tearing." Arianna explained, as she closed the Tricorder. "I can give you something for the pain, but I can't fully repair the damage with the items in this kit. Are you allergic to any medications?"

"Thank you and no I'm not allergic to anything that I know of," Gabriel replied. It wouldn't be the first or the last time she'd been injured with a lack of proper medical supplies on hand.

Arianna placed the tricorder back in the medical kit, then placed a blue vial in the hypospray from the kit. "This should suffice for now." She pressed it directly to Gabriel's arm, then put everything back in the kit. "Try not to do too much with it, or you will only injure it further."

"Thank you," Gabriel nodded. For now she'd do her best not to use the injured arm. Silently running through recent events in her head.

Arianna placed the medkit back where it belonged, then returned to her seat. She quietly pondered the situation she was in, as the runabout made it's way back to regroup with the others.
