the XO tries...

Posted on Mon Oct 27th, 2014 @ 1:10pm by Lieutenant Commander Adria "Tempest" Desoro & Captain Jey Cleh

Mission: Bloodpath
Location: Kataran's Palace restaurant - SB80 Promenade
Timeline: Less than an hour after "Seeds of Trust"

After her talk with Kathleen, Lizzy couldn't exactly break the deal she'd made to the older woman. She had taken the time to look up the list of restaurants on the station, and picked one.

The one she chose was an out of the way place called Kataran's Palace. It wasn't special, it served no special food, had no special entertainment, and as she stood just inside the entrance, she wondered to herself just why she had made this deal with Kathleen in the first place.

Finally she walked further in, and found herself a seat by one pf the few windows that faced out to the stars, and moments later was approached by a waiter.

"Can I get you anything, Miss?" The young man asked, as he stood there holding a PADD.

"A ham, and cheese sandwich, and a glass of water." Lizzy replied.

"I'll be back with your order in a moment." He said, before walking off.

Adria required a break. Food was also on her urgent list of immediate needs. As long as Desoro had been a combat pilot situations like their current one never got easier. Entering Kataran's Palace she headed for the nearest seat she could find. Addressing Starbase 80's Executive Officer as she approached, "Mind if I join you?"

Lizzy was about the tell the woman to go away, but reminded herself that she was here to be social, and approachable. "Go ahead." She said, gesturing to the seat across from her.

"Thank you," Adria took a seat then placed her order when a waiter stopped by. "I just need to grab something to eat then its back to work." Being social didn't come easily for Desoro however she did need to get to know the senior staff better.

"I'm on my off time. Kinda needed a change of scenery." Lizzy explained as another waiter came to set her own order down in front of her. She thanked the waiter, then started with a sip of water. "Something a little different than my normal routine."

Adria nodded, "A change of scenery is always good from time to time." Currently she didn't really have the luxury of having any true off time. It wasn't long before Adria's food and drink arrived as well.

"It never gets any easier, does it?" Lizzy asked randomly, as she looked at her sandwich. "This combat stuff I mean." She clarified before finally taking a bite of her food.

For a moment Adria's gaze shifted to the window as she took a bite. Slowly she shook her head, "No it never gets easier. Even if you trained for it and thats what you whole career is based on."

Lizzy finished eating the bite she had taken. "Well if it doesn't get any easier for you, then I guess it won't get any easier for me either." She said evenly. "That's probably a good thing, when you think about it."

"I can say for a fact as hard as it is you never want it to get easier. Just reminds you that you're alive," Adria replied then took another bite followed by a sip of her drink. "But either way I can't think of not doing what I do so that others can sleep peacefully."

Though she didn't voice it, Lizzy couldn't exactly say the same thing about herself. After her parents died, she had always been afraid of using her medical skills, unless it was absolutely needed. "We all have our reasons for doing the things that we do." She finally said, before taking a sip of her drink. "I do what I do, because it needs to be done."

Adria had a distant look for a moment, "That we do." She took a sip of her drink. Even today she still had her own demons. "Thank you Commander."

"For what?" Lizzy asked, before taking another bite of her sandwich. She s watching Adria, trying not to seem obvious about studying the woman.

Desoro placed her glass back on the table, "Simple you could have just told me to go away when I walked in here. You didn't." Briefly she paused, "And yet I get the idea you're curious about me."

"I'm curious about a lot of things." Lizzy replied. "I know I've got a lot to work on, and sort out in my head, but learning about those i work with helps me do my job better." It wasn't a complete lie. The more she knew about the crew, the easier it might be to fool them indefinitely.

Nodding as she took a bite, "Yeah thats understandable. This is a change for all of us." Adria had her own demons and still didn't know the station's new Executive Officer all that well. Yet other members like O'Shea she'd served under for several years.

~ You have no idea. ~ Lizzy thought to herself. "Have you known the Commodore long?" She asked. She was trying to get some better ideas about Kathleen. The woman seemed trustworthy enough, and had certainly placed a lot of trust in her after the meeting in the TIC.

Adria met Lizzy's gaze for a moment, "I've served under her for around five years now. First aboard the USS Discovery, then Merlin and now here."

"Coming here is the first time I've met any of these people." Lizzy said, then took a bite of her sandwich. After she swallowed it, she continued. "Guess it's kind of unsettling for me."

"I understand its unsettling for everyone at first," Adria commented. Though the only way to break the ice was to get to know people. She had a feeling the Executive Officer already knew that.

"Guess I just have to tough it out, and keep going." Lizzy said with a light shrug. "The only way is to move forward." It was a bit of wisdom she had heard from one of the people she'd met where she lived, but it seemed appropriate for the moment.

Adria nodded, "Sorry I don't have any better advice for you than that. You said it exactly just now. Toughing it out and moving forward is all you can do."

"So you're one of the pilots, right?" Lizzy said kind of randomly. "Uhh... Desoro, isn't it?" She took another bite of her sandwich, which was now almost gone.

"Correct I'm the CAG for the 220th," Adria commented with a smile, "Yes Adria Desoro." She finished off the last bite of her soup.

Lizzy reached over the table, offering her hand to Adria. "We were never properly introduced." She said. Adria's assumption that Lizzy knew how to break the ice was correct. She just wasn't a people person anymore. "I'm Captain Jey Cleh, XO of the station, but I guess you already know that."

Adria shook Lizzy's hand, "Things have been so busy I believe you are correct that we haven't properly been introduced. Adria Desoro its a pleasure to meet you and yes I've done my homework in that respect." She paused for a moment, "I should get back to duty shortly here."

"Don't let me keep you." Lizzy replied, before finishing off the last bit of her sandwich. "After this, I'm probably going to go get some beauty sleep."
