The Marines, Part 1.

Mission: New Frontier
Location: Shuttle Bay 3, Deck 72

Pete was on his way to Shuttle Bay 3 as his XO was arriving. Chief Warrant Officer King. He had done his homework on her, she had been a Marine for over 20 years and she had a reputation of been firm but fair.

She also had a reputation of telling junior officers what they should be doing and as far as Jane would be concerned Pete was still going to be a junior officer. Pete was however one of those officers that listened to his Warrant officers's and Sergeant, the wealth of experience that they had was invaluable.

Pete arrived early to greet Jane, he wanted to get ready for the arrival of his Brigade in a few days time. They had a lot to sort out as the Marine HQ was no were near being completed. He was not even sure if it had started yet.

Jane was pleased to be arriving on Starbase 80 she had specifically asked for this posting due to it being a frontier posting. She had been a Marine for 22 years and was still up for a fight. She was not sure what to expect from her new CO. Due to his last mission he had been away from the Marine family for some years. She knew no more for whatever Pete had been doing it was 'Top Secret'.

Jane collected her belonging and entered the shuttle bay. She walked through Security and was pleased to see a Marine Captain.

Pete saw Jane walking through Security, she was in uniform and was looking great for her age. He could tell that she was a runner ad still very fit. Jane walked up to him, stood to attention and saluted. Pete returned the salute and said "at ease Chief Warrant Officer."

Jane stood at ease. "Pleasure to meet you Sir, Chief Warrant Officer King reporting for duty."

"Good to have you on board Chief. We have a lot to discuss and at this time no were to discuss it. If you don't mind when you have settled could you please meet me on Deck 72 which will be are new HQ" asked Pete.

"Yes Sir, I shall meet you there in 30 minutes." Jane saluted and left towards her allocated quarters. She was impressed so far with her new CO, he was keen, but she would still have to do a lot of molding before he would make the CO that she wanted.

Pete was standing looking at the shell of Deck 72, he could see his HQ and loved the fact that he could have some input into the design.

Jane saw Pete day dreaming, she approached him, stood attention and saluted. Pete returned the salute and told Jane to stand at ease.

"So this is are new home Chief, just a shell at the moment but I can see a lot of potential" stated Pete.

Pete and Jane went though the area that would be his HQ. Pete liked Jane although he was a little scared of her, but then even a Field Marshall would be a little scared of their Chief Warrant Officer.

"Chief, any idea of who they are sending to us, numbers, equipment? I have been out of loop for a little while" asked Pete.

"No idea on numbers, but we are getting a couple of very experienced Sergeants. Most of the Marines will probably becoming straight out of the academy, so we will have a lot of training to do" answered Jane.

"It is good to have you with me Chief, this will be my first command and I have been away from the Marine and Starfleet structure for some time."

"I am aware of all this Sir, and so long as you listen to me and take note of what I say you will be fine." Jane said this with a smile.

Jane and Pete continued to look over Deck 72 and getting to know each other. Pete knew for the next week or so things would be slow for him but when his Marines arrived he knew that he would not stop. He instructed Jane to get hold of a list of the Marines that will be sent to his battalion and also when.

Pete was going to get hold of the Marine Crop Headquarters and see if he could have a team of specially trained search and rescue Marines attached to his battalion. Being a frontier positing he felt that they would be an important apart of his Battalion and the Starbase.
