“Are we ready…?” Petty Officer Cole asked impatiently. There was no answer. She waited a few more seconds. Still nothing. “Well…?” Her voice much louder this time. That impatient voice had turned into frustration.

Crewman Jones who had been too busy to answer her sensed the frustration. “Just a few more seconds…” He responded without glancing back. He continued to work on the console in front of him. But then suddenly before anyone could say anything else he turned around with a grin on his face and announced. “Ready!”

“Good.” Petty Officer Cole responded. She looked over at Crewman Charles who was behind the transporter console. “Let’s bring it aboard.”

Crewman Charles nodded. He took a deep breath. “Here goes nothing.” He input several commands into the console in front of him and just like the array that was once outside the ship was now inside it.

The room was silent as they all just started at the array for a few seconds then suddenly Lt. Faye spoke up. “Alright, let’s get to work.” She looked around the room. “First order of business we need to open it up and get a look at whatever is inside it then we can discuss how we will remove it…if we can that is.”

The room nodded in agreement. Crewman Jones made his way to the array with a tool kit. He opened up his tool kit finding what he needed he can working on opening up the array’s maintenance door. Petty Officer Cole who was standing a meter away from Jones held a tricorder in her hand. She was scanning the array.

After a couple of minutes Jones had unscrewed the door and pulled it away. Everyone else in the room moved in closer to get a better look at whatever was inside it.

They noticed a foreign device installed inside the array. The device seemed to have several cables running off from it. It appeared to be linked into all of the array systems.

“Well, that’s not good.” Crewman Charles stated.

Petty Officer Cole looked at Charles nodding in agreement as she brought the tricorder closer to the device inside the array scanning the foreign device. It was indeed linked to all major systems inside the array. They couldn’t simply pull it out. Whoever did this knew exactly what they were doing.

“I have never seen a device like that.” Lt. Faye stated. She wasn’t afraid to sound foolish. If she didn’t know something she was the type to let you know, and ask questions so she can know about it. “Are we able to identify the origin of the device…?”

Petty Officer Cole looked down at her tricorder readings. “Well, it appears to have number of materials that are often used in Romulan construction…” She paused for a moment. “Interestingly enough…I can’t scan the inside of it. Only the outer surface.”

“I see…” Lt. Faye simply stated. She paused for a moment as if weighing all of her options. She then looked over to Jones who was just standing there holding the piece of the array that he had removed. “Let’s power it up and see if we can get more information.”

Jones nodded. “Yes, ma’am!” He placed the door down and grabbed several cables. Petty Officer Cole moved aside as Jones walked back to the array. He quickly hooked up both of the cables and ran them to a nearby power distribution unit. He plugged them in and hit the button to begin supplying over.

The device inside the array began its power up process. Several lights flashed on the device. A loud fan noise could be heard coming from the device. The fan noise didn’t last long. The device fell silent. All of the lights had turned off expect for one that was blinking. Each new blink came more rapidly.

Petty Officer Cole who had been scanning the device quickly noticed a huge amount of power building up inside the array. She knew right away what it was. “Charles! Beam it off the ship right now!!!” She ordered.

Charles looked at her with a puzzled look on his face. Actually, Charles wasn’t the only one…both Lt. Faye and Jones did as well. “It’s going to explode!” She fired back at him.

Everyone in the room just went pale. Charles quickly rushed to the transporter. He locked onto the device. By this time the blinking light was blinking even faster. Charles beamed the array off the ship and it seemed that as soon as he did…the array exploded. The wave from the explosion shook the ship but it was undamaged.

“What the hell was that…?” Talia asked as she had just rushed back to where everyone was from the front. No one answered her but everyone was pale and quiet…as the fact that all of them could have just died set in.

“We are going to need a better plan.” Lt. Faye said as she looked up looking around the room at everyone in the room.
