Doctor! Doctor!

Posted on Mon Jun 16th, 2014 @ 7:15pm by Petty Officer 1st Class Arianna D'Tal & Commander Eliana Masters

Mission: New Frontier
Location: Stratkas IV - Civilian Medical Clinic
Timeline: During "First order of business"

Knowing that all of the senior staff were in a meeting, Arianna decided that now was her best chance of getting the medical attention she needed.

Going through the various things that had been left in her father's quarters after his disappearance, she found a number of useful items the night before, one of which she recognized as a personal transporter.

She remembered that when she rescued her mother a few years ago, she'd had a device exactly like this one to transport her back to the shuttle with her mother. Since the power output was low, she guessed that using it wouldn't set off the sensors.

Arianna attached it to her arm, and set the coordinates for one of the planet's countless medical clinics. She also grabbed a hand phaser, attaching it to her hip just in case, then energized.

Arianna materialized right outside the clinic. Holding her side, near her ribs, she entered in, moving to the receptionist. Lucky for her, there was no one in the waiting room as she approached.

"I need medical attention, or I'm going to die." She explained, and as she did, she lifted the side of her shirt to show a very large bruise that encompassed the spot just below her ribs on the right side, and spread out with a diameter of several inches.

What had previously been an extremely slow day at the medical facility seemed to be picking up in a hurry. The receptionist was half considering calling it a day early when a young woman had suddenly entered the waiting area. However, the malaise of the day did not dull her response, as she immediately exited the office and guided the patient down the corridor.

"Come with me, we'll need to go directly to the emergency area. The doctors will be waiting." The receptionist tapped on a series of buttons, no doubt alerting the medical staff of the issue. There was little doubt in the receptionist's mind that the situation needed to be treated as an emergency.

"My name's Lisa, don't worry, we're going to take care of you. Do you have your medical records with you?"

"No, but I'm not allergic to anything." Arianna replied as she followed the receptionist, holding her side where the bruise was. "I can also provide any other medical information needed about myself."

"Good to hear that you don't have any allergies, let me get that typed in here. Let's see, what else have we got to check on, hmmm," the receptionist gave the appearance of struggling with the PADD in her hand. "Are you on any current medications?"

"No." It was a lie, but in her mind, it was a necessary one. The less they knew about her, the better.

"Any recent visits to a medical facility, and if any were serious, go into further detail please."

"None that I can recall." This one was true. It had been a while since she'd needed any kind of medical attention.

"Your species?"

"I'm a hybrid mix of several different species." She said simply. "The only ones I know of for sure are Human, and Vulcan." She knew that their scans would find that she was half Human, 1/4 Vulcan, and 1/4 Orion, but she had a possible solution for any complications.

"Hmm, alright, that just about covers it," Lisa smiled as she opened the door to the emergency ward. "I just need a name and identification and we'll be all set."

As the entered the emergency ward, Arianna pulled a phaser, and forced the woman into an empty room. "I'm sorry, but you're not getting anymore information from me." She explained simply. "There should also be no record that I was ever here. Do I make myself clear?"

Confrontation with a wounded individual was never the answer. Policy was policy, but the hippocratic oath also meant something. The young woman seemed so believable to the receptionist, but there was a decision that needed to the made. Internally, the conflict did not last very long.

"I'll see what I can make happen."

"Good." Arianna replied. "Now go get me a doctor."

The receptionist disappeared down the hallway for a moment. A careful listener could hear the sound of a tense but brief discussion in the room down the hallway. A much lower, male voice seemed to hesitate for a moment before the sound of a deep breath diffused through the air in the medical facility. The sound of uneven footsteps crescendoed with every passing moment until the doctor finally appeared in the room with Arianna.

"Show me." The voice was curt.

Without looking away from him, Arianna lifted the right side of her shirt just enough to show the rather large redish-green bruise. "Fluid is beginning to cause pressure around my heart." She told him simply. "If the fluid is not removed, and the bleeding stopped, I will be dead by the end of the day."

The bruising certainly grabbed the unnamed doctor's attention. The medical professional did not care about his patient's wish for anonymity. As far as he was concerned, the less he knew about his patients the better. It was a cold way to practice medicine, but it was this object path that saved the most lives.

"It is good that you came when you did," was the simple reply. By now, the biomedical sensors had had enough time to begin to do their work. On cue, the rest of the medical staff appeared and began to prepare the area for the upcoming surgery.

"Internal bleeding here, here, and here," the doctor pointed to his colleagues. "Cauterize to prevent exsanguination, then drain the fluid before the pressure causes any heart issues. And please hurry, we don't need a dead girl on our hands today."

As the doctor moved away to prep himself for the surgery, Arianna grabbed his arm, forcing him to look at her. She gave him a rather serious look, using her Vulcan training to hide her fear. "There can be no record of any kind that I was ever here." She told him simply. "Are we clear on that?"

He stopped his preparation work for a moment, studying her features, trying to see what sort of deception was in use. Was the girl hiding from something or someone? Running from an organization? He had never been trained in counter intelligence, so he had no choice but to agree. What choice did he have?

The doctor simply nodded.

Without another word, Arianna let go of his arm, and lay back on the bed. She knew what this procedure entailed, and she also knew that she was leaving her fate in the hands of this doctor. Should he decide to turn her in, she would end up at the mercy of Kathleen, Captain Cleh, and Station Security.
