405th Has arrived

Posted on Sat May 10th, 2014 @ 4:21pm by Lieutenant Commander Rosaleen O'Donnell

Mission: New Frontier

[ON]

[Bridge, USS Mallard, "The Old Duck" Anton Class, Command ship 405th Tactical Airlift Group]

Lieutenant Commander Falk Von Hyden leaned on the arm of his chair and scrolled through the Group's daily Readiness Report on a PADD after a high warp journey of several weeks the various vessels of the 405th were in good shape and would be able to start work within hours of arrival at their new home, Starbase 80 New Frontier

The Starbase had been assigned to the Corp of Engineers and Von Hyden was bringing the 405th to be the base's workhorse, moving everything from heavy cargo, supplies, personnel, construction materials and pretty much anything else a division of busy engineers needed freighted around. If it was movable then the 405th could get it where you wanted it, on time and in the same condition as it was when it left, mostly.

The Mallard's helmswoman, Victoria Munroe, interrupted Von Hyden's reading "Sir, coming up on the last waypoint now, we should be arriving at New Frontier in approximately forty eight minutes"

"Thank you Ensign Munroe" Von Hyden acknowledged "Steady as she goes"

A few moments later the doors from the Bridge turbolift opened and young girl in civilian clothing stepped out. She had light brown hair, worn in a bob, straight eyebrows and pointed ears, she had a serious expression on her face.

Crossing to Von Hyden's chair she reached up and tapped his shoulder "Falk, you said were going help me with my homework. I'm stuck on the geography questions"

Von Hyden tuned with a smile and looked down at his eleven year old daughter, Tenleith. "Hey, can we please stick to "Dad"? At least in front of the crew" he said in a half whisper. It was a long running argument between them and one that Von Hyden had been loosing for two years.

His daughter rolled her eyes "Yes Father, of course Father, whatever you wish Father" she said with mock seriousness and muttered something in Romulan under her breath that Von Hyden was pretty sure should not be uttered by well behaved young ladies.

"Hey, knock that off" He chided, wondering for the countless time how his daughter had learned to swear like a Romulan trooper.

"Yes Father" Tenleith replied patiently

"Hey sweety, how's things?" Munroe asked the child from the helm

Tenleith grinned and skipped over to Munroe's position "Hello Vicky. What do you know about re-entrant valleys and saddles?" She held up a PADD with her planetary studies.

The pair started up a conversation about the child's homework and Von Hyden smiled watching his daughter. Tenleith was the product of a passionate relationship with the daughter of a Romulan Trade Emissary at Starbase 117 in 2380 and she bore her mother's name. The relationship had been short lived, ending when the Trade delegation had returned back across the Neutral Zone.

Von Hyden had been totally unaware even of his daughter's existence until a few months after the Hobus disaster when a worker at a Federation refugee outpost contacted him. His daughter's mother had died during childbirth and the remaining family had packed the baby off to an orphanage rather than raise a half-human grandchild.

The orphanage and Tenleith had been evacuated after the supanova and this had brought father and daughter together.

It had not been an easy transition for either of them. Von Hyden was a career orientated and carefree bachelor, Tenleith an outcast in her own society. Von Hydens parents, who had loved the little girl on sight, had helped the pair come together emotionally and, while there still difficulties father and daughter were gradually forming a solid bond.

An hour later the flotilla of 405th ships had arrived at their destination and were taking up a holding pattern before entering the Celestial Class station.

Von Hyden escorted his daughter back to her cabin and then went down to the Transporter room. He beamed over to New Frontier, made his way to Deck 12 and found his way to his new boss's Ready Room door.

He hit the chime and waited to be called in.

[Commodore's Ready Room]

Von Hyden halted in front of O'Shea's desk, came to attention and present a PADD with his orders and personnel file.

"Marm, Lieutenant Commander Von Hyden, Falk. Commanding four-oh-fifth T-A-G. Reporting for duty"

The woman seated at the desk looked up at the Officer. 'And again...this is getting old.'

"Relax, sir. You out rank me." She stood and walked around the desk, extending her hand. "Lieutenant Rosaleen O'Donnell. I am the Commodores personal assistant. Kathy has not arrived on-station as of yet."

Von Hyden lowered his eyes, redirecting his gaze downwards from where it had been fixed on the wall, two feet above the head of the desk's occupant. Sure enough there was a young lieutenant sat there, instead of a middle aged commodore and she was getting up to meet him.

He relaxed and grinned "Right, well...yeah... so I'm here, with the four-oh-fifth." he said shaking hands with O'Donnell "So, any instructions from the Commodore?"

"Nothing at the moment, Commander. Just get settled in where you can for now and support operations as requested. More craft will be arriving for your team soon as well. First thing you will want to do is get with Commanders Masters and Morr to figure out where to park and where to unload." She reached down on the desk to retrieve a PADD. "Let's see...yes. Currently you do not have an assigned office space or even deck. We are working on that, but a lot of deck designs and revisions are passing through the working group every day, so nothing has been written in stone for you as of yet." She set the PADD back on the pile. "If you need, for now we can set you up with a small office at our on-planet complex. It has the advantage of a nice ocean view."

"Sure why not, " Von Hyden smiled "Whats not to like about an office with an ocean view!"

Rosaleen returned the smile. "I'll work on the assignment this afternoon. Won't be enough room for everybody, but I can at least get you enough space to be functional. As for bunking...it's scattered about the station, but at least the facilities are functional. Nobody goes to bed dirty."

"Understood, I'll probably remain aboard ship for the time being, until things are finalized" Von Hyden replied "When are we expecting the Commodore?"

"She is expected to arrive in two days, barring no unexpected holdups. And from what I understand she has managed to get you some additional toys to play with."

"If those toys are new ship we'll take them!" Von Hyden grinned "We never turn down additions to the equipment list"

"Oh I think you will be pleasantly surprised. And there is a surprise coming that you will really love...but you have to wait for that one. Anyways, thanks for stopping by, even if I wasn't who you were expecting. If you need anything while we are getting your shop set up, please feel free to ask."

"Okay Lieutenant, if there's nothing else I'll see about getting my ships and crews settled in" Von Hyden finished

"Sounds good, Commander. Remember...anything at all, just shout. We have to get you up and going ASAP."

Von Hyden nodded and headed out.
