Location: Operations Center
“Excuse me...is there something I can help you with?” Ethan heard a female voice ask from behind him. He had made his way to the Operations Center. It wasn’t the main bridge of the station but it was more of an area for where the stations Chief Operations Officer along with the Assistant Chief worked out of. It was an impressive size. He would definitely be sending a lot of time in here. In the near future and more. He turned around in the direction of the voice. A welcoming smile on his face as he was greeted by a return smile from an attractive brunette.
Their eyes met for a moment before she broke contact looking at the collar of his uniform. She looked back up at him the smile never leaving her face. “So, you must be the new man in charge?” She shifted her weight slightly. Her figure showing off in her uniform. “I’m Lieutenant Faye, acting Chief Operations Officer, and now that you are here I suppose Assistant Chief Operations Officer.” She said taking a step forward and extending her hand.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” He extended his hand to meet hers. Her interaction with him was welcomed by him. He was glad to see that she seemed relaxed. Comfortable in a way. He had worried that his second in command might be uptight. Totally by the book kind of officer. “I am Lt. Commander Mackenzie, the new man in charge.” He stated as the two of them shook hands.
“Welcome aboard, sir. We have been expecting you for a few days now.” Morgan stated as she turned towards the office that was behind her. “Let me show you to your office.” She began walking towards the office. She was glad that he had finally arrived. There was a lot of work to get done. She had a handle on if all but it would be nice to have another set of hands.
Ethan nodded. “Thank you. I had an unexpected situation come up that had to be taken care of before I came.” He followed her to his office.
She stopped in front of the door looking back at him. “Don’t worry, I didn’t use your office.” Her tone playful. She pushed the door open. The lights came on almost automatically. The office had its standard furniture. It was clean but it also had a feeling like no one had been in there for some time. As she stepped inside she stepped to the side so he could enter.
Ethan followed her in. He looked around the office. It showed that no one had been inside for some time. It felt kind of cold. It didn’t have that homey feeling. He looked back to her. “I suppose this will be home from now one.”
Morgan nodded. “Yes, and if I may be so bold I’d suggest getting a bed in here.” She smirked at her own comment. “Those chairs are not so comfortable to sleep in.” She motioned towards the chair behind the desk.
He looked over to the chair then back to her. “I take it you’ve had many late nights lately?”
She nodded again then sighed. “More than I’d like to admit.”
“Well, we will see about changing that.” Ethan stated. He walked deeper into his office running his fingers across his desk before stepping to the window. He was glad that he at least had a window.
“That would be much appreciate sir.” Morgan said. She watched him for a few seconds then said. “I will let you settle in now sir. If you need anything I will be next door.” She turned to leave.
“Wait…!”
Morgan stopped in her footsteps looking back at him. He still stood at the window but now he was facing her. She titled her said to the side lightly and before she could speak he began speaking again.
“I would like to be brought up to speed as soon as possible.” Ethan said as he walked behind his new desk. “And if your schedule allows, maybe we can do it in a little bit.”
She had expected as much. After all, he is now in charge of the department. She nodded. “Sure, I have a briefing that I must attend in 10 minutes but it should last too long. So, would in an hour work for you sir?”
Ethan nodded. “Yes, that will be perfect.”
“Great. See you in an hour.” Morgan said.
“I will be here.” Ethan quickly replied.
Both of them exchange nods then Morgan left for her meeting while Ethan decided that this was as good of time as any to settle in.
