Reporting to Commodore O'Shea

Posted on Sun Dec 21st, 2014 @ 2:42am by Commodore Kathleen O'Shea & Lieutenant Commander Ethan Mackenzie

Mission: Bloodpath
Location: Starbase 80 Commodores Office
Timeline: Backpost

The lift doors hissed open. Ethan standing there looking at the hallway leading down to the office of Commodore O’Shea. He took a deep breath and stepped out. His nerves appeared to have been getting the better part of him. He had reported in to number of officers in the past but never been nervous. Maybe, it was the rank. He closed his eyes as he heard the lift doors close behind him. Well, there wasn’t any option now. He opened his eyes and headed down the corridor. At the door, he stopped. Made sure his uniform was straight and rang the bell.

Kathleen was digging through the stack of PADDs on her desk, trying to find the one that...ahhh, there it was. She pulled up the supply list and, without even bothering to review it, signed off on it and forwarded it to Fleet Logistics Command. The dos and nurses knew what supplies they needed a hell of a lot more than she did. There...another task completed. Only a thousand more to go...

The sound of her door chime interrupted her from continuing on to the next task. She couldn't exactly say that it was a bother...she was thankful for an excuse for a break. She looked up at the door as she said "enter".

When the door opened Ethan stepped inside the office heading directly for the desk and the individual sitting behind it. To his surprise the individual sitting behind the desk looked very young to be a Commodore. If he had to guess he'd say that she was in her twenties. He took a quick peak at the rank on her uniform to just make sure that she was indeed the Commodore. And of course, she was. He stopped a meter away from the desk. "Ma'am, I'm Lt. Commander Mackenzie, I have been assigned to this post to server as the Chief Operations Officer."

Kathleen stood and walked around the desk, extending her hand. "A pleasure to meet you." After shaking hands she sat on the edge of her desk. "Please, have a seat. I hope you are ready to jump in head first."

“It’s a pleasure to meet you as well, ma’am.” Ethan stated after the two of them had shook hands. After he was offered a seat he dropped his bag next to the chair and sat down. He looked in her direction his face finally showing slight glimpse of excitement. “Definitely ready to jump in head first.”

"So I am assuming that you know nothing of our current status, as you have been in transit and it has not made a general fleet-wide broadcast as of yet. We are currently engaged in operations on Taranok IV. They suffered a terrorist attack in their capital center, and now some type of enemy operation is ongoing." Her features turned down just a bit. "Unfortunately that is pretty much the extent of what we know. Intel and comms have been pretty much non-existent.

Ethan sat there silently listening to her explanation of the situation. It was true what she said. He was not aware at all about what the situation was. It sounded terrible. He wanted to jump right in and help out. He nodded as she finished. “That sounds terrible. What can I do to help?”

"Well, this operation is essentially a logistical nightmare. Our Logistics and Materials head is off station on a temporary assignment, so there is nobody with any real operational experience in Logistics Mobility on station, as most of the department's personnel are relatively new." Kathleen picked up a PADD she had been loading data on to and handed it to Ethan. "We use an advanced logistics system here on New Frontier. We even have a divisional office for Cerberus Logistics here on the station."

Ethan grabbed the PADD from her. His eyes shifted to the information being displayed on the screen. She was right. It was a nightmare. He dimmed the screen and looked back to her. “I will get started on getting things in order right away.”

"Medical and Humanitarian Aid taskings are priority at the moment it would appear. The Marines are taking care of their own supply chain so no worries there. We are looking at about a 3 hour trip each direction, plus turnaround time. It would also be nice to put together a team to go planet as soon as possible."

Ethan leaned back in the chair. He let out a gentle sigh his eyes closing for a moment. As he opened them he looked at her again. "You weren't kidding about jumping in head first. I will evaluate the personal we have and get things moving ASAP."

"Very good." He started to hand the PADD back to her, and she indicated that he should keep it. "Take a day or so to get settled in, then get back back with me. Anything you need, just ask."

Ethan nodded. "I can do that." He said with a smile on his face. "If you need me to take care of anything sooner please let me know." Ethan slowly stood up from the chair. "It was a pleasure to meet you ma'am. I look forward to working with you."

Kathleen shook Ethan's hand once again. "As do I, Commander. Keep in touch." She watched as he turned and exited her office, then returned to her desk...and the stack of work that still waited for her attention. But she took solace in the knowledge that her job had just became a bit easier. But there was still so many tasks that needed accomplished...and the time in which to do it was rapidly ticking away.
