Out of Chaos Comes Order

Posted on Fri Dec 12th, 2014 @ 10:08pm by Lieutenant Commander Rosaleen O'Donnell & Commander Andrew Matheson

Mission: Bloodpath
Location: The Path

After finding herself once again alone, Rosaleen was at a bit of a loss as to exactly what she was supposed to be doing. Finally deciding that just standing there was accomplishing absolutely nothing, she decided to explore the path a bit further. She started her way once again, lost in her thoughts. It was this lack of conscious observation that almost caused her to completely miss it. There it was...another path, barely visible unless you were standing right next to it. She stood and studied it for a bit before approaching. The way was darker down the branch. She took a couple of tentative steps onto it and...

Sadness. Pain. Confusion. It was overwhelming to her, forcing her to step back onto the main path. It took her a minute to recover, so overwhelming had been the pure emotion that she had perceived. But within it was a strange sense of familiarity. Something about the waves that had assaulted her she recognized. Something that made her realize that she needed to try the path once more. She had to know.

Prepared for what to expect this time, she was able to hold the storm at bay somewhat, at least enough to attempt to explore it further. As she concentrated, she was able to start identifying the various emotions that existed, with the strongest being grief. As she explored further, several distinct points of light started to dimly appear within the maelstrom. One seemed to be a bit brighter than the rest, which caused her to unknowingly shift more of her attention to it. The sadness flowed forth, but Rosaleen had no idea what the cause of all of this pain was.

"Why are you so sad?" She said absent-mindedly, more to herself than anybody else. But suddenly, the point of light brightened a bit more.

Andrew stiffened as he heard... no, that wasn't the right word... perceived an echo of Rosaleen's voice. Why are you so sad?

Reflexively, he thought I've just lost a friend who gave her life to save mine. I didn't get to thank her, I didn't get to say goodbye, and I can't prove she shouldn't still be here with us. There's plenty there to be sad about...

----------------------------------

Ghost whispers flowed through her mind. The words she could understand, but the source...again, there was something so familiar about it, but the ability to identify it eluded her. It was evident that there was an importance to this new path. But one very important question remained...

Would she risk the maelstrom?
