Arrival at Starbase 80

Posted on Wed Dec 3rd, 2014 @ 11:13pm by Lieutenant Commander Ethan Mackenzie & Ensign Talia Lawson

Mission: New Frontier
Location: Outside SB80

A computerized voice echoed in his head. He couldn’t make out if he was dreaming or if it was in real world. He mumbled a few words then the room fell silent. A few seconds later the voice could be heard again. This time it was much louder. Ethan made out a few words as he snapped out of his slumber.

“Computer, replay the last message.” He gave out the command in a sleepy voice. His hands reached for his eyes. Gently rubbing them as the voice filled the room once again. “Sir, we will be arriving at the starbase in five minutes.” He recognized the voice as that of the helmsmen of the runabout.

Ethan peaked his out of the nearest window. Starbase was still no in view. He quickly collected his things packing them away in his baggage, then he headed to the front of the runabout.

“I’m sorry sir if I woke you but we are about to dock.” Helmsman spoke without turning away from his console. He knew that it was Ethan. It was just the two of them on the runabout after all.

“Don’t worry about it. Thank you for waking me up.” Ethan said as he approached the empty seat next to the helmsmen. The runabout was already inside the station and it was maneuvering to its docking bay.

Ethan had been inside a similar starbase before but each time he entered it he found it nothing short of spectacular. He was always amazed by the sheer size of the structure. The engineering that had to go into designing something as this. The manpower that it took to build and then the logistics that took to run such a place as this. That was probably what excited him most about his new posting. He wanted to see the inner workings. He knew that there would be challenges but he was ready to face them head on.

His day dreaming was disturbed by the gentle bump of the shuttle making contact with the docking rings. He looked over to the helmsman who was looking at him. “We are here sir.”

Ethan nodded as he pushed himself out of his seat. “Yes, it does appear that way.” He took a deep breath then headed to his bags. As he picked up his bags he turned to the helm. “Thank you for the pleasant flight. Good luck tomorrow in your match.”

The helmsman turned his head around his seat. “Thank you sir. Best of luck. I’m sure we will run into each other again, sir.” Helmsman nodded to Ethan then turned his attention back to his station. He paused for a moment. “Sir!” He said as he turned around again.

Ethan stopped in his tracks. His bags in his hands. He turned around to look at the helmsman.

“If you are free tomorrow at 1300, you should come watch the match.” The helmsman flashed a smile at him. Hopeful that Ethan would agree to come to the futbol match in the holodeck.

Ethan thought about it for a second. He wasn’t sure he if would have the time. He didn’t know what his schedule would be like but seeing a live match excited him. He would make time for it if he could for sure. He nodded with a grin. “I will be there.”

“Great!” Helmsman said with excited. “See you tomorrow then sir.”

The two of them exchanged goodbye nods. Helmsman turned back around to the console. Ethan headed for the exit. He was ready for the new assignment. Ready to face new challenges.
