From Experimental to Operational

Posted on Wed Oct 15th, 2014 @ 12:23am by Lieutenant Commander Rosaleen O'Donnell

Mission: Bloodpath
Location: CM1 Hangerdeck

Rosaleen walked briskly into the hanger where her personal craft was kept. As she approached it, she could see several techs working on and around it, with several maintenance hatches and panels open all across the craft. Off to the side, a pair of civilians stood with the the lone Starfleet officer in the bay. Everybody else worked for a private firm. The firm owned by the two gentleman that turned at the sound of her footfalls.

"Rosaleen..." The taller of the two greeted her as he shook her hand. "... it's so good to see you again. I trust that she has been treating you right?"

Rosaleen shook the other two men's hands, then turned to look at the craft. "You could most definitely say that. She is a solid craft...haven't had any mechanical or electrical glitches at all with her at all. And she never fails to turn a head or two when she comes into any port of call."

"Well we have been going through the data we downloaded off her earlier this morning, and operationally the data verifies what you and everybody else testing this model has told us over and over. Oh...this is Traver Ulster from fleet R&D. He has been overseeing this project for the council."

"In other words, you work for my Father." Rosaleen said to the man, enjoying the startled look on his face. 'So you didn't know...good show, dad.' "I do hope you are not planning on taking my little toy away from me now."

"Absolutely not." Traver replied, recovering as best he could upon discovering who he was speaking to. "Anyways, I am going forward with the recommendation that we put these craft into a limited operational trial. There will be three locations that will receive the craft, and Starbase 80 will definitely be one of them."

"And as for this craft..." It was the taller man again...Steven Atwood. "...consider it a gift from Norcom Aeronautics. And before you say anything...CEO's prerogative."

There would be no arguing with the man...Rosaleen already sensed it. She would make sure it was officially placed into the families foundation trust. That would ensure there were no issues as far as her fathers position was concerned. "Thank you."

"Anyway, let us finish up here...another hour or so, and we will have her back ready to go for you. In the meantime...I have a teleconference to go join in. If they can get it on this afternoons agenda and approved, we can get your birds headed this way from Utopia by tomorrow. We've...uh, well we kinda expected this to go off without a hitch."

Rosaleen smiled. "Well then, I shall leave you to your task. Again, thank you. I promise we will make good use of them." Another round of handshakes, then Rosaleen turned and headed for Masters office. She figured the first person to know what was coming was the one who would be responsible for them. She didn't even consider the possibility of the council not approving their deployment and further construction...she knew her father well.
