Adjusting to the Changes

Mission: New Frontier
Location: Aboard Starbase 80 (New Frontier)
Timeline: Current

As the panel sparked, Sylak could hear the core beginning to reactivate, one of the security detail, an Ensign named Lowell, turned to point his phaser-rifle at the core.

"At ease Ensign," Sylak spoke calmly, "It's simply beginning the reactivation protocol." The nervous Ensign began to lower his phaser as several lights began to turn off. Sylak set his Engineering kit down and walked over to main diagnostic panel, which came to life along the Core, illuminating the darkened room.

"What happened?" Ensign Lowell asked in a slightly unnerved tone. Sylak approached him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Be calm Ensign. I have deactivated auxiliary power and we are waiting for the core to initialize." Lowell's posture denoted an easing of tension, from his lowering shoulders to his standing completely upright. Sylak could identify, but yet not understand the Ensign's emotions, "Ish-veh ni komihn." Sylak said raising an eyebrow. "What?" Lowell asked as Sylak turned back to the diagnostic panel.

Sylak scanned over the panel, "Hmmm.." he spoke idly. Ensign Lowell looked over to the lieutenant, "What is it, sir?" Sylak ran through the diagnostic program without answering.

"Sir?" Sylak looked over to him before speaking. "Ensign, I would appreciate the opportunity to work. Please hold your questions until I am finished." He said in a flat tone as he adjusted the flow regulation control. There was silence but for the sound of the Core humming. After a few minutes, the Ensign began to whistle, stopping the minute Sylak looked over at him.

After a moment, Sylak looked over to Ensign Lowell. "I have restored this deck to power, we may proceed to Main Engineering." The Ensign seemed relieved that Sylak was speaking. "Aye, Sir. This way I believe." He said gesturing over to the exit to the rear. "Lead the way." Sylak said as he picked up his engineering kit and following the Ensign, who took out his tricorder. "Open Sesame." The ensign said as the doors opened. Sylak quirked his eyebrow again and followed him through the door.
